Scouting is good for you!

You may have seen in the news this week that being a member of Scouts or Guides as a child can decrease a person’s chances of suffering with poor mental health as an adult by 15%. It comes as no surprise to those of us who work with the Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers as we see them develop over the years they are with us, gaining in self-confidence and building valuable life skills. We’d love to offer Scouting to more young people in Cranleigh, but we don’t have enough adult leaders, so if you want to get involved and help us build the next generation, please contact me!

Water Stations for MABAC 15/21 mile run – Sunday 20th March

Each year our Scout Group takes the opportunity of raising monies by organising watering stages for this local run. There are usually about 800 runners who take part – most of them in preparation for the London Marathon.
To be at a water station is great fun especially for small kiddies who like poring water into cups.

So please send me an email on or a text on 07973 229052 to take part. It all kicks off at 8.00am and finish around midday. I will be calling parents shortly to chase you all up.

Thanks Dave and Colin.

Unfortunately we’re having to make some substantial changes to our Beaver Colonies at Easter. Please read this letter for details and contact if you are able to help.

First we run the Car Park at Notcutts for the Village Fire Works display from 5.30pm on Saturday 7th November. Explorers please come and help but no Scouts under 13 years for safety reasons. Finish at 7.45pm – just scarves.

At 7.30am on Sunday 8th November we are to clear the Common area of litter – we receive up to £ 400 from the Lions for these duties. Please meet by the smoldering bonfire in oldish clothes and boots. All Leaders Scouts and Cubs over 10 years please come along.

At 10.15am on Sunday 8th November we assemble in the Scout HQ in full uniform ready for parade to War Memorial for Remembrance Day Service with the rest of village people. Overcoats may be worn if actually raining otherwise thermal vests and long johns under your uniform. Lest we forget !!

Final instructions are here..

Thank you Dave Saunders and Colin Desmond.

Brian – Scout Leader steps aside.

Our larger than life Scout Leader – Brian Summers is stepping down after 12 years with the Cranleigh Scout Group as it’s lead SL. He feels it is time to make way for some younger blood with a new ideas and different approach.
The Group are indebted to Brian for enabling a steady and building up a troop of 15 Scouts to two troops with 60 Scouts. He has lead us to all sorts of places including – Belgium, Switzerland, PGL and CYE as well as many more local camps. Whilst he has been such a steady hand it has been possible to build up the Group at cubs and Beaver level. So thank you Brian from all the youngsters you have influenced and been a role model – you have earned a short rest and we hope you will around in times to come. Colin, Dave and Cranleigh Leaders with Executive.
